Yoga Routine can be beneficial for both advanced yoga practitioners or anyone who just wants to improve their health.

The systematic yoga practices that you will find in this chapter will help you to benefit your health greatly and improve your overall yoga results. These routines are not “rules” but practical guidelines for living on a daily basis.

It’s All About Balance

The lifestyle routine proposed in yoga encompasses spiritual and psychological aspects. The guidelines are based on living according to sattvic yoga principles, including adopting personal ethics and a code of morality such as speaking the truth, serving humanity, not exploiting others, respecting elders and devotion to spiritual growth. Yoga exercises, yoga meditation and controlling negative emotions (greed, envy, anger, and violence) further enhance the mind and body.

Diet, adequate sleep and exercise, cleansing therapies, and regulated sexual activity are the main factors of complete health, with which you will get familiarized in this chapter.

Maintaining balance throughout life can make older age more comfortable, productive and enjoyable.

Features of a balanced life are discussed throughout this section of the website. Many of my articles in this chapter will touch upon such aspects of yoga as:

Rest and Relaxation

Profound rest and relaxation is an important factor in both life and yoga routine. Unfortunately, because of our modern hectic lives, we forgot what it means to be fully relaxed. Yoga can help you in re-learning this process offering a wonderful yoga technique known as SHAVASANA (one of the different yoga positions). This complete yoga relaxation is very beneficial for achieving a healthy mind and energetic body.

Sleep

Sleep is the natural yoga to restore lost vitality and is considered “the diet of the mind”. During sleep, the body is rejuvenated and strength restored. Yoga advises going to bed early, around 9:30 pm, 10 pm at the latest and rising early or before sunrise, which is usually around 5 am depending on the season. This yoga routine helps to recharge the nervous system and avoid such health problems like constipation, headaches, appetite problems, poor concentration, and nervous system disorders.

Alcohol, Coffee, and Tobacco

Yoga routine advises to restrain as much as possible from smoking and avoid the consumption of coffee and alcohol. On the physical level tobacco, coffee, and alcohol make you lazy and dehydrated, etc, and on the subtle levels, they obstruct your energy channels and damage the centres of force, which Yoga aims to energize. Thus, this will lead not only to your health damage but also to a decrease in mental power, lack of concentration, weakness.

Bath

Daily bath or shower is important as a part of your yoga routine. Never take it however immediately after doing yoga exercises or other yoga techniques. So, make sure that you try to take a shower before getting into practising yoga poses. One should never bath straight after meals, as it harms the digestion.

Air-baths

The air-baths are necessary for giving to the body a sensation of freshness and allowing it to give off a pleasant smell. Try to do it as regularly as possible as a part of your yoga routine. It is extremely beneficial, allowing the pores to breathe freely, and enable one to develop a wonderful power of resistance.

Sun-baths

They are a source of energy and force, provided that they are widely practised. The sunbeams can be a wonderful tonic as a part of your overall yoga routine as long as you would not abuse it. The best moment for achieving a sun-bath is when the Sun raises and has a pink colour. Then it can cure countless diseases; it bears the D-vitamin and charges one with vitality. You can also practice yoga poses during this type of sun.

Swimming

If possible try to make swimming a part of your regular yoga schedule. Note, however, that swimming in the natural water like lake, river, or sea is the most beneficial compared to a swimming pool for example. It is the most wonderful natural yoga exercise for harmonizing and natural mastery of the breath, which is extremely beneficial for our overall health.

Barefooted walking

Every time you can — especially in the summertime — you should make it a habit to walk barefooted in the fields, on the shores of lakes, rivers, or sea. This type of yoga practice is extremely beneficial as your soles will absorb the subtle telluric streams, that strengthen and refresh the organism exceptionally, also providing the natural massage to the most vital points on your feet called marma points, which in yoga refer to various organs in your body.

Yoga Diet

Have you ever heard the saying “We are what we eat and we eat what we are Quality and quantity of food being a part of your yoga routine is absolutely important? Always remember that food can be medicine by itself already. Make sure that you get familiar with my numerous articles on the yoga of eating below on this page.
